On Thurs. May 28, 2015, producers, Margaret Elaine Plaza, 2014 National Artist Teacher
Fellow and Director of Dr. Sun Yat Sen MS 131's Dance Program in New York City; and Dr.
Isidore Rudnick, Fine Arts Curriculum Manager at Cincinnati Public Schools and 2014 National Artist Teacher Fellow Administrator, presented the NAECC Concert which featured the collaboration of 146 performing and visual arts students from schools across the country and choreography from Margaret's experience studying dance in Cuba. Our performance will feature:
Original Afro-Cuban choreography by Margaret Elaine Plaza conceived from her experience studying dance in Havana, Cuba as a 2014 National Artist Teacher Fellow depicts the resilience of African slaves in Cuba.
A choral composition written in Rome by Kathleen Bawel, 2014 National Artist Teacher Fellow and Music Educator at Pinellas County Center for the Arts at Gibbs High School, performed by singers of CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Middle School and Ruth Eckerd Hall "Center Stage Troupe." Kathleen Bawel will conduct the choir, as Omega Dance Company performs original choreography.
Original jazz compositions by Dr. Rudnick performed by the School for Creative and Performing Arts’ Chamber Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Rudnick and danced by Dr. Sun Yat Sen Middle School 131 Dance Students.
Poetry written by Pamela Nomura, 2014 National Artist Teacher Fellow and Artistic Director of CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Middle School, performed by the CREC Greater Hartford School of the Arts Middle School Choir, conducted by Theresa Rice, Music Educator of CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Middle School.
