Welcome! On Thursday May 28, 2015, Margaret E. Plaza, National Artist Teacher
Fellow and Director of Dance at Dr. Sun Yat Sen MS 131, in New York City; and Dr.
Isidore Rudnick, former Artistic Director of the Arts at The School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati, Ohio, and National Artist Teacher Fellow Administrator, produced The National Arts Education Collaborative Concert (NAECC), which featured the collaboration of professional artists and 146 performing and visual arts students from schools across the country. The NAECC featured:
Mezcla Cubana, a beautiful dance work of art that's an amalgam of jazz dance, Afro-Cuban modern, and Afro-Cuban folkloric, choreographed by Margaret Elaine Plaza to Movement #5 composed by Dr. Isadore Rudnick, created, in part, from her experience studying with OffJazz Dance Company in Nice, France as a 2014 National Artist Teacher Fellow.
Resolve, an Afro-Cuban sacred modern dance choreographed by Margaret Elaine Plaza, conceived from her experience studying dance in Havana, Cuba with Danza Contemporanéa de Cuba as a 2014 National Artist Teacher Fellow, which depicts the resilience of African slaves, performed by guest dancers of Omega Dance Company.
In the Garden, written by Pamela Nomura, 2014 National Artist Teacher Fellow and Artistic Director of CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Middle School, performed by the CREC Greater Hartford School of the Arts Middle School Choir, and conducted by Theresa Rice, Music Educator of CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Middle School.
Scatter, original jazz music composed and conducted by Dr. Isidore Rudnick. The School for Creative and Performing Arts Chamber Ensemble will perform the music as Dr. Sun Yat Sen Middle School 131 Repertory Dance Ensemble performs, Jazz-A-Ma-Tazz choreographed by Margaret Elaine Plaza.
In the Stillness, a choral composition written in Rome by Kathleen Bawel, 2j014 National Artist Teacher Fellow and Music Educator at Pinellas County Center for the Arts at Gibbs High School, performed by singers of CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Middle School and Ruth Eckerd Hall "Center Stage Troupe." Dr. Sun Yet Sen MS 131 Repertory Dance Ensemble will perform their choreography to Kathleen Bawel's composition as she conducts the choir.
